Decatur is now designated a Dementia Friendly Community by the Dementia Friendly Network of America. CHELP is the lead agency for Dementia Friendly Decatur, with a Leadership Team made up of local community leaders and collaborative partners who oversee and guide the initiative to make sure we continue to fulfill our mission.

Our mission is to educate the community and increase awareness and understanding of dementia, so that individuals with dementia can live comfortably and safely within our community.  We work towards ensuring that our community is informed, safe & respectful of individuals with the disease, their families & caregivers and provides supportive options that foster quality of life.

Members of our Leadership Team include the Macon County Mental Health Board, Land of Lincoln Credit Union, Macon County Board, East Central IL Area Agency on Aging, Starting Point, Memorial Health Systems, CHELP, Alzheimer’s Association, Macon County Emergency Response, Decatur Park District and the Empowerment Opportunities Center. We also receive ongoing in-kind support from Pepsi and Wallender-Dedman Printing.
